Moscow - Speculation Israeli attack on Iran is increasing. But the Russian government warned that a military strike against Iran would be a very serious mistake that will lead to further conflict and civilian casualties.
"It (the attack) would be a very serious mistake filled with unimaginable consequences," said Minister of Foreign Affairs (Foreign Minister) Sergei Lavrov as reported by Russian news agency AFP on Monday (7/11/2011).
"Military intervention would only lead to increased casualties and human suffering," said Lavrov.
Lavrov remarks came after Israeli President Shimon Peres threatens Iran that Israel's attacks more likely. Peres delivered the warning ahead of the release of the report the UN nuclear watchdog, the IAEA on Iran's nuclear program.
The Israeli government has previously stated that the nuclear report will be a material consideration in decisions about the possibility of an attack on Iran.
Government of Israel, the United States and other countries suspect Iran is developing atomic weapons through nuclear program dijalakannya. But the Iranian government repeatedly denied this. Tehran insists that its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes, namely as an energy for the benefit of civilians.
