Dr. Hellman said that in general if a patient has a hemoglobin A1C levels higher than those who use insulin, it is advisable to use insulin therapy in the treatment.

American Diabetes Association recommends a hemoglobin A1C value should be 7 percent or less, while the American College of Endocrinology and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists recommended value is 6.5 percent or less.

"In addition, if you can not lower A1C levels through diet, exercise or other drugs, then you may need insulin to lower it," said Dr. Hellman.

However, the use of insulin is usually not recommended if the person is not able to manage something well, have limitations in vision and dexterity, and no support from family.(detik.com)
