SUPPLEMENTS NOT ABLE TO REDUCE ILL EFFECTS OF SMOKING

The study found that smokers often feel safer if he take a multivitamin supplement to improve his health.

Though it was not worse than cigarettes reduce the risk, but instead make him smoke more because he felt his body was protected by a multivitamin.

"Smokers who consume supplements can fool himself into thinking that their body is protected against cancer and other diseases," said Wen-Bin Chiou from National Sun Yat-Sen University in Taiwan.

Chiou said that smokers are mistaken if you think a multivitamin can eliminate the health risks of cigarettes, because there is no evidence that multivitamins can protect cancer, according to a study published in the journal Addiction.

In this study, researchers conducted two separate experiments with the number of participants as much as 154 smokers. Some smokers given a placebo sugar pill and the rest are given supplements of vitamin C.

The study found that participants were told that he was given a multivitamin supplement actually smoke more than the placebo group. This is because he thinks have a higher immunity so that the urge to smoke become more widely.

Psychologists see this condition is an example of the effect of licensing, namely the effect that occurs when someone assumes that the right choice when he took a bad choice at a later date. For example the same as someone who was not drinking alcohol during the workday could make him get the 'right' to binge drink on weekends.

"The smoker must constantly reminded about their health and realize that multivitamins do not prevent cancer, so this could help control the amount of cigarettes consumed, or even encouraged him to stop," said Chiou told LiveScience.
