Symptoms of strep throat

Strep throat is inflammation of the larynx. This causes hoarseness or complete loss of voice because of irritation in the vocal folds (vocal cords). Dysphonia is the medical term for vocal disorders, which is one cause of strep throat.

Strep throat is categorized as acute if it lasts less than a few days. If categorized as chronic, and can last more than 3 weeks. The chronic form of the disease occurs mostly in middle age and occurs more often in men than women.


Cause
- Viral infection
- Bacterial or fungal infections
- Acid reflux disease
- Inflammation of the vocal cords caused by excessive
- Excessive Coughing, smoking, or alcohol consumption
- Allergies
- Use of inhaled corticosteroids for asthma treatment

Symptom
- Hoarseness
- Dry, sore throat
- Cough, which may be the cause of strep throat
- Difficulty swallowing
- Sensation of swelling in the larynx
- Cold or flu-like symptoms
- Swollen lymph nodes in the throat, chest, or face
- Fever
- Coughing of blood
- Difficulty breathing (mostly in children)
- Difficulty eating
- Increased production of saliva in the mouth

Before giving medication, it is very important for doctors to find the cause of strep throat in order to establish the correct diagnosis with the aim of preventing antibiotic that is not right for most people with sore throats because it may cause the organisms that are resistant to antibiotics.

The doctor will examine your throat and lymph nodes in the neck. Continuation approach is to test throat swab to determine the presence or absence of bacteria.

Throat swab should be done if there is a suspected diagnosis of strep throat caused by streptococcal bacteria on the basis of clinical and epidemiological findings and patients not taking antibiotics.

Throat swab culture results are usually the only tests required. However, sensitivity to antibiotics also needs to be done in patients who are allergic to penicillin because of streptococcal bacteria that are resistant to erythromycin.
