3 Top Causes of Breast Cancer Gene Found

London, currently still the scourge of breast cancer for women. Now the British scientists discovered three key genes associated with the most common form of breast cancer. This discovery could have saved thousands of lives per year by providing new ways to diagnose and treat breast cancer hormonal or commonly known as estrogen receptor positive breast cancer.

Scientists from Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research Centre at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), London reveal this discovery in the future could help breast cancer patients do not respond to drugs such as tamoxifen.

The scientists discovered the gene called C6ORF96, C6ORF97 and C6ORF211 learned very well from the human genome, in addition to the estrogen receptor gene is the major driver of the hormonal breast cancer.

"This discovery is surprising. We found this gene in place that we think we know a lot of things, it's like finding gold in Trafalgar Square," said Dr. Anita Dunbier, lead author of the study published in the journal PLoS Genetics, as quoted by the Telegraph, Wednesday ( 04/05/2011).

Dr. Dunbier said today he and his team will see more about how these genes work. And these findings may lead scientists to discover new therapies are more beneficial for women with breast cancer in the future. "The drugs most widely used today as inhibator aromatase which target the estrogen receptor itself. But if we can target these genes, it could treat the tumor better," he said.

Meanwhile, Professor Mitch Dowsett, who led the team at Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research Centre revealed that the study is interesting, because it shows in addition to the estrogen receptor a key driver of the hormonal breast cancer, there are other parties who helped influence the behavior of breast cancer.
