Jakarta's MRT Project to Proceed

VIVAnews - Governor of Jakarta Fauzi Bowo made certain the development of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project in the Indonesian capital will proceed although Japan as the main financer is still under post-disastrous hardship. The Jakarta administration said the first phase of the MRT project will have been completed by 2016.

"The MRT prequalifying tender will take place in April 2011," said Bowo, on Thursday.

According to the Jakarta governor, the early development process will be applied in Q1 of 2012.

Bowo denied rumor that the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will cancel the partnership agreement due to the current post-disastrous crisis.

PT MRT Jakarta President Director, Tribudi Rahardjo, said the Lebak Bulus stadium will have to be removed soon for the company will have to acquire land by as early as March of 2012.

The MRT route of Lebak Bulus - Hotel Indonesia plans to cover the length of 15.2 kilometers.

960,000 passengers are expected to use the transportation means at 5 minutes of headways.
